“The 1-4 Coordination Drill”
-Creating “The Release”-

Here’s Your Blue-Print/PDF For This Lesson…

Lesson Overview…

What’s going on [firstname]…

By now, you should be seeing some fire in your playing and this lesson is going to be like putting jet fuel on it – if you’ll wrap your brain around it.

When I was a kid and discovered this, I was blown away with the things that it helped me do!

Though it’s called a “drill”, don’t be fooled…

This so called “drill”  is within itself an awesome thing to throw in a lead/solo. I’ll go over that in just a second.

What I really like about this is that it causes your fingers to become “loose” on the neck of the guitar. It creates something I call “The Release”. After you get through it a few times – you’ll see exactly what I mean.

You’re fingers will have a tendency to slide very easy – and have what can only be described as an automatic movement.

As you do this, remind yourself to stay loose through the movement. It may be sluggish to you at first but after just a few attempts you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Four things to remember:

1) Go up it and them back down it.
2) Apply the Trip-O-Let to it after you do #1. I’ve shown you exactly how to do it in this video.
3) Remember, just because you start it at the bottom doesn’t mean you have to run all the way to the top! Mix it up! Repeat a couple sections. Now fall to the pentatonic minor for the key you started this in (Think Cowboy Blues I, II, or III).
4) Apply “Front Stage”!!! …. Tap, touch or grab 12 frets up the neck!

As for soloing in a KILLER fashion.

One of the coolest sound you can get when your writing your own music is to switch keys when you go into a solo. It puts passion into it automatically and gives it more emphasis!

SWITCH KEYS!!! Here’s how you would do it.

Assume you were playing a cool rhythm in the key of A. (Remember “The Simple 7 & 12”?) If not, no big deal – click on the link over to your right and get re-acquainted with it.

You could have your rhythm just jump up to the key of B and play the exact same rhythm or a slight variation of it.

Now this is where it gets cool…

When the switch goes up to that B, play today’s lesson (“The 1-4 Coordination Drill) from the top to the bottom or from the bottom to the top.

Then… Fall back to the key of A — Where you were in your song’s original key. Then play out any of The Cowboy Blues. Just make sure when you do the fall back to the key of A – you need for your rhythm to fall back to that key as well. Easssssy Stuff!

You’ll sound like a genius! It really gives drama to it.

You could stay in any key as long as you wanted but the initial jump up (when you change keys) sounds great if you just stay there long enough to go TOP to BOTTOM or BOTTOM to TOP (with the 1-4) and then falling back to the original key…. Man that sounds great! It just prefaces your solo with somewhat of a scream that says “LOOK OUT! HERE I COME!”

Alright, get to it and see what you think.

This is a great tool and I can promise you, you won’t hear many people doing it at all. People will come running to see what you are doing. Just make yourself stick with it until you get it down.  You’ll love it in the end.

If you’ll practice what I’m going to show you over the next 4-6 months, you’ll be able to do things with a guitar that most people will never do in a lifetime.  Uhhh… That’s a good thing!

Take it smooth and if you have any questions, that’s what I’m here for – post them in the Q&A and I’ll get back with you.

Peace!

Jerry
