Hy Jerry .. I just want to ask you if I can solo in the key of B pentatonic over a song that is actually in the key of G# ?

NOTE FROM JERRY:

Alexandru,

Don’t over-think this stuff. The simplest way to navigate easily is try the Penatonic minor or major over the G (if that’s the key you are playing in). Start by playing the Pentatonic Minor in key you are focused on (the tune). If it sounds off, try playing the major Pentatonic. You will find one of them fits and then at that point, play around with it and look for ways to embellish it there. Triple Factor.

Try it!

Hey Jerry,

I’m following up with your lessons and am really motivated to learn some cool stuff.
I must tell you that your lessons have re-kindle my urge to learn guitar and learn music.

Presently I’m not having any electric guitar and I’m planning to buy one.
Can you help with which guitar should I buy?
I looks like we have too many options to choose from. Should I buy fender or gibson, strat or les paul, Epiphone or squire.. I have tried to look at all of them, and I’m really not sure what to go with.
I thought of going to the shop and having a look at them, but I don’t know anything about them, I don’t even know what to look for!

Can you guide me with this?

Regards,
Devanshu

I’m 76 years old and have been playing “on” a guitar since I was about 6 or seven. Mostly just strumming chords to accompany myself singing for family and my own pleasure. Now that my voice isn’t what it once was (for sure!), I’m trying to learn more pickin’. I have a strong desire, but old fingers! I’m hoping that your lessons will be a big help, and if I can develop ANY picking technique, I’ll be pleased. Thanks for the lessons; I’ve already learned some new things!

I started a week ago Sunday and I’ve been having the time of my life doing things I never did on a guitar. I started with the Bridge lessons and have just got to my second full blown lesson. I’ve been having fun doing with the cowboy blues especially after being one of those who strummed chords for most of my guitar playing life. So like I said earlier I’ve been having a good time, excited to learn and experiment.

A question I never used a pick when playing guitar mostly finger strumming with a little finger picking. Does a finger-picker need to adjust his style to do some of the things you do with pick? Or do you think I need to try a pick?

NOTE FROM JERRY
Wendley,

Thanks for writing in. That’s a tough one to draw a line in the sand on. I’m sure a standard pick will feel “off” or odd to you but I think you’ll find some things hard to do without it. I won’t say it’s impossible. Heck, look at the guy that plays with his toes.

I think the best way to look at it is to just do it to add more techniques to your arsenal and styles of playing.

Thanks for the generous compliments.

Let’s dig in!

Hello Jerry, Wishing you and your family a belated Merry Christmas and a Joy filled new year.

Is there any way to make the most recent comments, questions and answers be on the top of the page? It seems odd that the most recent are on the bottom. Just a thought. Thank you.

MM

RESPONSE FROM JERRY…

Michael, I’ll look into it. I’m a lame-brain when it comes to some of this computer stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I’ve just done the lesson “Look mum, no guitar”,learned a lot so far. How important is it to learn scales? I’m trying to learn one set at the moment and find in tricky to memorize it all.

NOTE FROM JERRY:
Gavin,

Scales are important indeed. However, I’d rather know a couple, ad a few passing notes here and there and KNOW HOPW TO USE THE FIRE OUT OF THEM, as opposed to being able to say I know tons and tons of scales.

Let’s learn to use what we know and make music.

Peace!

As the lessons unlock, they appear to the right under the Full Blown sign. Remember, you must be a member of the Full Blown course. hope this helps!
