How’s it going?
This short short video lesson will literally teach you how to take something you already know – and get three times (3x) as much use out of it. You’ll do it under 19 minutes! Practice this and look for “The Triple Factor” Part-B in a day or two.
Over the past 30+ years of playing and working with other players, I’ve found there are “3 Rules” that 90% of all players fail to really wrap their head and fingers around.
The oversight of these 3 Rules even applies to advanced players! So if you’re less than advanced, or even if you are advanced, rest assured that they have most likely escaped you as well!
But that’s quite alright!
We’ll not only touch on them –we’ll learn some simple steps to master and exploit them like wild in the lessons ahead.
The important thing to know is that NOT KNOWING “The 3 Rules” will literally sabotage and limit you playing abilities!
I want to encourage you to keep coming back through the lessons you’ve already received at this point. By doing so, you’ll continue to stack your knowledge and polish what we’ve learned so far and you will know exactly how to master “The 3 Rules”!
By the time we complete “The Bridge” you’re skills will have compounded like wild.
Just stay with me here and let’s keep thinking outside of the box. I can guarantee you – you’ll be thrilled with the end result if you keep pushing ahead.
Take it easy!
Jerry
Wait… wait… wait… Please, before you start the lesson, read this:
I just wanted to share a recent quote that will surely strike a chord with you and all our Guitar Tribe. As you know, being a part of our guitar community, you’ll hear me and literally tens of thousands of others guitar players refer to our community as “The Tribe” or “The Guitar Tribe”. You are a part of something important and great. You are part of our Tribe of players. We all bring the amazing gift of music to our families, friends, and strangers. No matter what level you play at, what you share is a gift and I’m honored to call you friend and Tribe! – Jerry
THE QUOTE:
“A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea. For millions of years, human beings have been part of one tribe or another. A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate. … Tribes need leadership. Sometimes one person leads, sometimes more. People want connection and growth and something new. They want change…you can’t have a tribe without a leader – and you can’t be a leader without a tribe.” Seth Godin

Arash
brilliant lessons, been trying for ages and getting nowhere, you’ve got the knowledge and the skill to pass that knowledge on…… nice one Jerry…. and THANKS

bye the way your lessons are brill jerry, thanks
I get what you are teaching, but my fingers hurt and I find the baring very hard, any tips
Hello Jerry…I am new and I mean raw…I tried learning the guitar when I was Twenty I took one lesson and it was totally foreign to me. I could not wrap my head around any thing so I decided maybe I just didn’t have any musical DNA in my blood so I laid the guitar down –At Forty I tried again and again to no avail- but I always said that when I retired I would make more of an effort and try again …I’m Retired now and this is the only thing left on the Bucket List ….Got to at least learn ONE song..I started reading the first lesson and again I was like HUH Here we go again ..I put it down for a day and the next day I re-read it and I GOT IT !!!!! Simple Easy I was in awe of myself lol …and the second lesson also !! I guess not knowing anything about playing a guitar probably has made it easier for me. You are a Fantastic Music Master and just wanted to say simply Thank You . You have opened up a new world for me..I stared practicing today and I made progress..I’m a little behind but I want to make sure I have each lesson down pat before I move on to the next…Im not giving up and I am STOKED !!!!!
Hey dude! This lesson made me feel like I can play like I’ve always wanted.
Thanks a lot, we keep in touch.
You’re great
Carlos
Hi Jerry starting to see the light ! keep it coming my friend.
i tell you what jerry, your lessons are the greatest thing ever! i really appreciate you taking the time to put all this together.ive been playing for 20 something years and your course is really helping me out to understand what the heck im doing.ive only been playing by sound so its hard to make stuff up on my own.now with your knowledge in my brain i can make up some really cool stuff.thanks a million jerry!
nice lesson
hey dude, been telling a few people about sorting the grey matter out about knowing the right steps to playing properly. there would be a world of dudes out there that fiddle around the usual running around the chord area to ring out some finger work notes just like i do, well the lads i have spoken to use my technique, that is run around a lot and it kinda makes sence but dont, and reading into what you are saying i am picking up on the fact that if you really want to do something properly you should have some good foundation to build apon. back to basics is a “bridge” for me to base my future on. i will stick with you dude, i very rarely trust anybody with my strange passion for the guitar, i have been playing since 76 but feel like i missed the right direction so lets see where we end up. thanks dude.
Looking forward for the next lesson, cant wait. Thanks jerry, its getting more brighter now .
Hi Jerry Well mate you just rang my chimes, every thing you said on your intro is me could.nt believe you were saying everything that i have been through.Your instruction technique is way ahead of other online teachings,I have been trying to learn for 2 years under various teachers with no success so put the guitar away 9 months ago.But finding your course has changed all that, like all the others you made me sit up and take notice and can,t wait for the other lessons.Keep up the good work your a legend mate. Thanks Wayne .down under.
Hi Jerry,
Enjoying the journey so far, looks good, now to go away and put it into practise
thanks again
Playing at the 17th fret is difficult on an acoustic.Any hints or tips?
NOTE FROM JERRY
Keep an eye on your inbox… good things are headed your way!
jerry
Hi Jerry,
I have signed up and am currently receiving the Bridge course.
I find the material very good but I’m a little more advanced than the last
email, I do not and will never have a facebook page. I am thinking about
signing up for your full blown course but can not find a link for it.
again thanks for all your hard work , time and, effort to put this all togather.
So good Jerry, just with a few notes the things you can play are very good, I will be on this, and waiting the next lesson, so thanks for all this you teaching us.
Hi Jerry,
Great stuff.. like you said a lot of teachers keep some of this stuff secret and I totally agree, it is just to keep you hanging on and taking more lessons and giving them your hard earned cash.
Never really been into finger tapping but this has got me more interested so i will be giving it a try.
Great lessons so far.
Phil.
hi jerry another great lesson this is like map reading i have had the map upside down for years now i can read it the correct way around i can reach my destination
many thanks jim
Well as far as I understood (I’m right now in the middle of the bridge course) he is teaching a lot of possibilities, so you can play all over the neck or create things on your own. I think it’s up to you how you use it. Either by playing bluesy/ funky stuff or shredding as malmsteen/ batio….. and other typs of music.
Did you ever saw a lesson for shredding which was quickly and easily to be done? I’ve never seen something like that because all these lessons for alternate/sweep picking… need a lot patient. At the end you may master the technique but not often with a good use for yourself… mostly for covering stuff.
If you know where you can play something which sounds cool, then you’ll also be more motivated to learn these techniques. Jerry will also show some drills which will help to get better at playing (and not only understanding).
… but as I said, I’m at the beginning of his lessons and I’m very looking forward to finish his “Full Blown” course.
well i really have things to confess at the beginning when i saw this guy he said he was gonna teach how to get 3 or 10X better than we are……so i was expecting some yngwie , michael angelo batio lessons…….
and to tell you the the truth i got disappointed when i saw him because i didnt see him play like batio or malmsteen or kristofer dahl……
but as he said at the beginning of this lesson hes not teaching us how to get fast…yup he was right the lessons ARE NOT bout speed. they are about understanding music. i’ve been playing for 2 yrs and im not trying to show off but i can play kinda fast and my sweep picking is really fast but i dont know how to play chords at all so i used to think guitarists would just sit and create music outta nowhere….. but no this guy made understand how it all goes….this lessons are pure GOLD!!!
i used to think there was 24 notes per string on a guitar so i thought there was like hundreds of notes….haha..excuse my ignorance please……and thanks for making it clear….. whenever i get a job or something (which will this summer cuz im senior) ill buy ur full blown program!!!
Oh man! This rocks! The Pinch, the Open E stuff, wow. I don’t know what else to say but THANKS! I couldn’t imagine learning Yankee Doodle like one of the other guys. LOL.
Thanks Jerry – I’m spreading the word to a few “pros” that I know – I’m sure they’ll be shocked they’ve wasted their time :)
R
Jerry,
You have a lot of interesting ways of getting folks to understand the entire neck and how to make different sounds all over it. I like it, but I am not a real fast learner. My brain understands, but my fingers don’t move like they should. So I will need to go back over these and continue practicing to get better.
Thanks for your videos and pdf’s.
Greg
Jerry, I have to hand it to you, you are simply an amazing guitar teacher. I have been playing for years, since 1976, but in all honesty my lead playing has gone right up ten notches since I started to go by your method. And this is only in a few weeks! And I am deadly serious; I am now actually starting to sound like a proper lead guitarist and not someone who knows a few licks.
My kids think you’re amazing too; in fact, my ten year old son, Aaron, is already flying all over the board and doing some incredible licks simply from using your coaching on the A minor pentatonic scale.
Tell you what; if you are ever in Ireland it would be my absolute pleasure to buy you a drink.
I can’t wait for your follow up videos.
Best wishes to you and yours,
Patrick.
Exiting stuff. looking forward to next lesson.
As a beginning player I hope the next few lessons clear up what I’m learning from you. As for the 800kg (I’m from the Metric system) gorilla, it is paying off!
Thanks,
Willie
Hiii
I am an intermediate player and I am quite happy to see how easy you have made learning guitar.
I hope I should have started with your lessons.
Many a Thanks
Rajan
Hi, Jerry
As a beginer I am suprised how easily I am learning and I have tried many other programs, great job keep it coming
Note From Jerry: Thanks Alan. Stick with the program. You’ve only seen the sparks!
Jery
Jerry, You have a friendly style of teaching. I look forward to each lesson. Keep rockin’
hey jerry
your lessons are right on. love the way you teach. starting to open up my playing.please more
Hey Jerry
Your starting to open up my playin. Thanks so much please keep it coming
Your lessons are easy to understand … the things I’ve learned in the past few years are now falling into place because of your methods. Looking forward to the next video!!
Hey Jerry
really opened up my playin . THANKS
pretty sweet lessons
well, hell jerry, DUH!!!! i have learned more in these first three lessons from you than i had learned my entire life playing guitar. after the simple 7 & 12 the lites went on big time. i had just recently learned a beginners twelve bar blues routine that inro’s with a walking blues run and mixed a couple of simple e minor lead riffs along with a blues shuffle..anyway, this routine was written to be played twice, so 24 bars…based on your simple 7 and 12, well, i decided to use the e minor riffs on the 12th fret for the second twelve bars…and even played the blues shuffle part there as well…unbelievable…took the song to a new level…what a cool sound…and not because i’m good, but because you are a great teacher…another student on this blog said it best i think…he commented your lessons and style of teaching have a “brilliant simplicity”.. can’t wait for the next lesson..thanks for everything….DUH!!!
Hey! i’ve been playing for 5 years on and off, and in only three videos i feel like i have something extra to work on so thanks from venezuela
I have to say jerry really knows how to teach!
Now, I have a better way to play and most of all its in a format that any one can learn.
Thanks Jerry!
Hi Jerry
just to let you know that i am enjoying the lessons and looking forward to the next. i have just watched the video on pentatonic scales. i have learnt the major scales but i didn’t know what to do with them till now so I’m off to have a go wish me luck . thanks
hi gerry lessons are great i spent a lot of money on books and videos and learnt nothing and for the first time ever i feel like i might just get there your videos are great and the pdfs are fantastic
Hey Jerry, I really am a beginner, but well up in age (70). I have copied your PDF’s, which are very helpful. Have practiced the Power Cords, but have trouble covering the strings properly and moving from cord to cord. Are the A & D power cords the same as Am & Dm, on a cord chart?
I have used this all over the neck with songs I have learned. Its fun to move up and down on the neck, more fun then sex. Ok !
Maybe not.
Jerry I play OK but get confused about what scales to use. Love blues. I think your lessons are gunna help and I enjoy your videos. Look forward to further insrtruction and help.
Hey Jerry, I’ve been messing around with a guitar since school (now 44) never really moving on from basic chords or bar chords. Conventional technical teaching would bore me. But your style has really got me interested again and determined to improve. Can’t wait for the next email. All the best Ian – Northampton UK.
Jerry, I have been playing for about 2 ½ years and have come a long way. I have spent a lot of money on books, DVD’s, and personal lessons that I guess have gotten me this far. For the last eight months or so I’ve been learning a lot of songs off You Tube and other video sites but only off of visualization and memorizing finger placement. Your videos and method of teaching has helped me more than any thing else I have tried at this stage of my playing. Your videos have given me more confidence and have me looking forward to each new lesson.
Thanks,
Kenneth.
Greetings Jerry
Took some time to respond to you but wanted to make sure I was picking up some learning. I must now tell you that I’ve been to many online lessons but yours has something the others do not have. Its called patience. I am truly encouraged to continue on and master this instrument. At first I kept blaming my slow advancement on the guitars I was purchasing. Went thru two two types of accoustic, two types of folk and am now on my second electric. I kept trading them up thinking the problem must be in the guitar. I realize now that it was the manner of teaching I was receiving from the different outlets. I truly like your style and I plan on sticking with it to the end. I am left handed but have come up with my own learning tricks as I go along with your videos. One small helpfull hint that has worked for me is I label the neck of my guitar with a white-out pen. It is easy to take off but durable to stay on while learning. I have the two top strings labeled with the proper cords in place on top of each fret. Works great for me!
Keep up the great work Jerry and although I may be silent at times, I am one of the many whom appricates what you are doing for us.
Greg
Thanks Jerry,
I’ve had a flat top around for most of my over sixty years. I’ve grazed for the most part on the upper neck region. I’m enjoying your manner and method. I do believe that you can be of tremendous aid to anyone wishing to advance their talent and depth. Keep it up. Bill
Hey Jerry,
Just like to say a BIG THANKS! your lessons are just fantastic.
Ive had my guitar for three weeks now,i’m already moving and experimenting up and down the neck.
Ive cancelled my other subscriptions to internet lessons, because yours WORK!
Keep up the good work pal.
Jon
Thnx Jerry this is really helping. My last teacher was so boring and wanted me to play songs like yankee doodle. Your a great teacher.
I’m really enjoying your lessons Jerry! I decided to pick up the guitar about 1 month ago, just before my 40th birthday.
I’d searched many sites and stumbled across yours. Sure glad I did! Although I have to watch the videos more than once, I find them informative and fun.
You’ve made me want to pick up and practice everyday. Thanks for being willing to share your knowledge! Cheers from Canada!!!!
hi jerry,
thanks alot man for your lessons they are fantastic, if i wrote down everything i wanted to say i would be here all night. you ROCK.
I am also self taught and have,nt played for about two years because i was bored playing the same old chords.
I’m so glad i found YOUR lessons.
I only have my acoustic and have been playing it every chance i get. The way i am playing now is already better than i could imagine thanks.
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT LESSON.
—–NOTE FROM JERRY
Wow, the UK. It amazes me to see the flood of emails and posts that all you guys and gals are sending in. I’ve mentioned sneaking around in my dad’s old 70 model truck when I was only 15 to teach adults and kids my age at the time. To see my lessons reaching people in Australia, UK, China and other parts of the world that I don’t even know exist simply amazes me.
Your comment is overwhelming. Thanks. You “AIN’T” seen anything yet. Just stay subscribed and you’ll be blown away at the end of your first six months. I guarantee it.
DISCLAIMER
I am NOT endorsing sneaking around and driving unless you have a drivers license and your parents permission (if applicable). My dad used to let me do it in our small town. I owe him the world and don’t recognize it enough.
Jerry
Jerry dude you rock man . ive been playing for a while now . the things you have showen me are awsome . nothen like normal boring lessons. i cant wait for the next email from you thanks alot mate . bloody beutiful thanks again mate cheers from jas downunder
Terry…
Thanks. Don’t get discouraged by the old ways of learning to play your guitar.
You’ll be amazed at what will start coming out of your guitar as you go through these mini lessons.
I’m glad to share this stuff with all you folks.
Jerry

jerry, i can see the path from nimrod land to open necked countryside with your knowing where to go, almost a ready reckoner for the fretboard, fantastic. i have had lessons years ago and returned home confused losing interest not knowing what to do with what i learned,i am starting to see where some of it may fit although still classed as a beginner my enthusiasm has been re kindled with your lessons, looking forward to the next one. kind regards, terry.
Jerry,
Tonight I worked on changing octaves with both the A and the D power chords. I’ve NEVER played down on the 17th fret and lower, but I took your advice and went back and forth between the two octaves. After about 15 minutes I was making up my own stupid sounding licks and having SO MUCH FUN. I was sliding up and down between them, trying to figure out the best way to fit my fingers that far down the neck and gradually becoming more accurate and consequently faster. I’m having a blast with your instruction technique. I’ve only been playing for a year and a half, and I’ve progressed more in the last couple of weeks than I have in the couple of months. Thanks for all your help!
Best,
Mike
Re: Michael Harmon
Sounds like you’re really getting it! You’re exactly right about going up the neck and finding the corresponding note.
This is why I CAN NOT over stress the importance of “The Simple 7&12” lesson. Yes, it can be boring BUT… It’s the bomb and it’s quick to understand.
By learning the notes on the neck, you never find yourself wondering where to go when you’re soloing.
As for “the Pinch”, yep… it’s the deal.
Everything I have coming your way is designed to TOTALLY shake the cage on traditional learning methods.
You’ll find them all to compliment one another and just flat out work like wild.
Thanks.
Jerry

Re Crank’s comments…
We’ll hit in some more on two handed things. If your two handed licks tend to just sit there and repeat (ultimately going nowhere) and seem to sound “empty” when you end, try this…
ALWAYS DO YOUR HAMMER-ONS AND PULL-OFFS IN TIME. Slow and in time sounds better than trying to “wing it” to fast and it not sitting into the groove or beat.
Don’t repeat the notes being used in the two hand lick too many times. And, when you get ready to end it, hammer on the ROOT note 12 frets up from where it would be on the left hand OR grab the root any where you can with your left hand (on the first 12 frets) and do a “touch” with your right hand 12 frets up.
This sound awesome! If you bend the ending note after doing a touch 12 frets up, it sounds very “FINAL” or “FINISHED”.
Play with it.
Jerry

Okay, first things first. The “pinch” really helped me with my bar chords. Second, I’ve been disciplined about your request to stay in sequence. It’s getting easier with each lesson to understand why. I’m starting to see patterns like taking the low E open string and finding an E on the 5th string, then doing that all the way down the strings. I can’t wait to start playing with different octaves. Thanks for keeping the lessons easy to grasp.
Best,
Mike
Well, that was pretty cool. Are you going to get into doing more two handed techniques on the neck. I love that sound but unfortunately, a lot of what I’m doing just sounds like repeated notes not really going anywhere.
Thanks.
Crank
WGC…
Just practice coordination skills like 1234’s with a bend on the end.
You’d be amazed how much this simple drill will help you. Try it.
1234bend
1234bend
1234bend
Do it on each string for three or four days, only five minutes.
You’ll be amazed.
Hope this helps.
jerry

way cool!!! now if i can get my fingers to obey
Here – here CC!!! I’ll second that! I want to hear more of those BA intro’s. When are you going to post those Jerry and where on the site. They rock and so do these lessons.
ANT
You know, I commented on the first video “the 7 and 12”. I thought that was in it’s simplest form a great way of showing the notes on the neck.
There’s something about the way you come across. You seem familiar and have a way of making the information you’re sharing seem that way too.
This lesson is awesome. I’ve been practicing some licks using this and you’re exactly right, it gives old licks a new sound and if you can focus on mixing things up, it sounds really cool.
Thanks for this free stuff! Do you have a full blown course or book available?
Thomas
CC…
Thanks for the feedback. You’re right. It is easy. It’s just something most players overlook and then one day a light comes on and you’re like duhhhh!!!
Ton’s of the stuff I teach will be like that for you. Just do each lesson that I send you, step by simple step.
In regards to your question about who is playing the background stuff, yep… that’s yours truly.
I get a lot of good feedback from people on that. Maybe I should send those songs out or post them on the blog for download. Hmmmm…
I’ll do it.
Thanks again.

I’m going jump in on this conversation!
Dude… This lesson is [dead on]!
It’s the truth man, how many times do you learn something and then make very little use of it? I do all the time. I forget or it’s just too much jibber jabber.
This lesson is a “no brainer”! I mean, yeh, it’s easy as can be but how many people have really thought to build this in to their normal playing?
I KNOW I’LL POLISH UP ON IT.
Today, I’ve been practicing it on a couple of my normal licks and man, it’s just a great idea. They sound totally different and heck, I haven’t had to learn anything hard to do it.
I’m curious, is that you playing the background music at the beginning and about midways at 14:30 on the video?
I can see that’s you opening up the actual video. Sweet!
That lead in the middle with that screaming note that seems to fall off the neck is awesome!
If that’s you, cool! Teach us that stuff too.
If it’s not you, who is it??!!!
Well, you’ve got my attention and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the next lesson.
Thanks.
CC
Thanks Brian.
Guitar really isn’t that tough to learn if you cut out the “fat” and things that most lessons try to “keep you on the line” with.
The way I see it, I’d rather see a person jumping ahead and really progressing.
That’s the real reward. This system I’ve developed just flat our works – and it works quick.
Wait till you see the next couple lessons!
Talk soon!
Jerry

Hey Jerry,
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your style of instruction. I am self taught because I could never find anyone who didn’t bore me to death. Thanks for changing all that!
Brian
